Hypnobirthing. Why it works!!

thecountrymidwife

The popular fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen about a young woman whose royal identity is discovered by a test of her sensitivity is perhaps the best metaphor for birth fear I have come across (credit KGHypnobithing).

No matter how high the princess built her tower of mattresses, she still managed to be irritated by the pesky little pea that lay beneath her!

Every expectant mother, however much she looks forward to the birth of her baby, will have seen a TV programme or film depicting a less than positive birth experience. Similarly biased opinions or negative comments form the same worries and anxieties; words are powerful! These thoughts may be buried deep in her subconscious but nonetheless, are there.

That's where Hypnobirthing comes in!

Hypnobirthing is about releasing fear and building confidence. Helping you to feel calm instead of frightened about birth.

When you feel calm and relaxed your body produces the hormone oxytocin, helping your uterine muscles work more effectively, speeding up the process of labour.

Oxytocin triggers the production of endorphins (often referred to as the body’s natural pain killers): your body is perfectly designed to give birth efficiently and comfortably.

All you have to do is replace fear and anxiety with birth positivity... real positivity and trust that your body knows what it needs to do to birth your baby. Giving birth can be the most wonderful and empowering experience of your life.
